碓井ゆい（USUI Yui）

Born in Tokyo in 1980, Yui Usui lives and works in Saitama, Japan. She received a BFA in Oil Painting from Tama Art University in 2004 and an MFA in Oil Painting from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2006. Working with everyday materials and handcraft techniques, Usui creates paintings, sculptures, and installations based on research into social systems, history, gender, and labor. She was awarded the VOCA Prize in 2018. Recent exhibitions include Aichi Triennale 2019, Caring / Motherhood: Contemporary Art from the Perspective of Care at Art Tower Mito Contemporary Art Gallery (2023), SENSE ISLAND/LAND 2024, and Akune Umi-machi Art Festival 2025, among other exhibitions in Japan and internationally.

1980年東京都生まれ、埼玉県在住。2004年多摩美術大学美術学部絵画学科油画専攻卒業、2006年京都市立芸術大学大学院美術研究科油画専攻修了。身近な素材や手芸の技法を用い、社会制度や歴史、ジェンダー、労働などをテーマに、リサーチをもとにした平面、立体、インスタレーション作品を制作している。2018年にVOCA賞を受賞。近年は「あいちトリエンナーレ2019」、「ケアリング／マザーフッド」（水戸芸術館現代美術ギャラリー、2023）、「SENSE ISLAND/LAND 2024」、「阿久根うみまち芸術祭2025」など国内外の展覧会に参加している。 (acac-aomori.jp)
